"Woyane" is a term used in Tigray meaning "rebellion" or "revolution. Tigrayans have fought for self-determination three times in the last century. The First Woyane or rebellion was in 1943 when Tigrayans stood against a forced centralized government by the regime of Emperor Haile Selassie.

TYLV Clothing - Salsay Woyane Collection

The Second Woyane was from 1974-1991 in which Tigrayans led an anti-government uprising against the dictatorial regime known as Derg.

The Third Woyane otherwise known as Salsai Woyane, "Salsai" meaning "third" refers to the current fight for self-determination against the unelected PM Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia. This Third Woyane is fighting for Tigrayans right to self-determination on the ground as well as in the diaspora through advocacy and activism.

To embody this ideology, TYLVCLOTHING created the Salsai Woyane Jersey which has the number "3" to reflect the Third Woyane Revolution. The Salsai Woyane Jersey is one of our best sellers and hundreds of Tigrayans are often seen wearing it at both local and national protests condemning the Tigray Genocide.
